Here on The Diced Show we tend to be crazy, funny, outrageous, but often times the word ’serious’ is not in our vocabulary. Serious topics, but not always a serious delivery. Like every person, at one point in our lives, I find the need to be serious now. Perhaps not ’serious’ so much as blatantly typing from…yes Diced fans…the heart. Kelli here…its a couple hours after Barack Obama’s infomercial and I have felt inspired to say some things and what better place than thedicedshow.com?
This election has been one of the most divisive in American history. Whether we choose to acknowledge this or not, our country is divided over race in the form of socialism, marxism, terrorism and any other ‘ism’ you can think of that Barack Obama has been called throughout this campaign. But I am not here to defend any of these remarks. I am here to speak from the heart…
This election is divided. I too, am divided. I am divided over the person I was before this election began and the person I now strive to be. Before this election, before this primary, I had never involved myself in a political process before. This time was different. I had a partner who showed me how important volunteerism is, how important it is to fight for what you believe in and mostly, how important this country is and what is at stake. So, I volunteered. I canvassed, phonebanked, held signs, applied bumper stickers and fought passionately with friends, family and co-workers. But the fight will never end and neither will my passion for what we are looking at in the democratic candidate that is, Barack Obama.
Tonight, I watched as a candidate explained to the American people what he felt was the best way forward for this country. As is so innappropriate to say…I am one of those Americans who could potentially hit the $200,000 income mark and be faced with greater taxes than I already do within a few months. But as I hear and see many people speaking out against Barack’s ’socialism’ tendencies, I immediately remind myself how lucky I am. I have health insurance. I make a solid, steady income that I should be proud of. I am typing this blog post on a MAC computer that is less than a year old. I buy groceries every week. I put gas in my car. I rarely blink an eye. Sometimes I close my eyes and wonder what its like to be a single mother raising children on several jobs and no health insurance. Sometimes I wonder what it might be like to lose all of my retirement savings when I am seconds away from retiring and sometimes I just wonder how and why I am so lucky and others are not. That, in itself, is the sole reason I intend to campaign, canvass, cry and vote for Barack Obama for president of the United States. He represents what American is. Call me a socialist for making enough money and wanting to ’spread the wealth around.’ I believe in being taxed higher than my neighbor who lives on minimum wage and tips at the local bar. I believe in giving back and I do not believe that I am socialist or a marxist or a terrorist. I believe, like Barack Obama, that America can stop being selfish and give, and by giving, receive some of the greatest gifts life has to offer.
I am moved by Barack and what he represents for this country. I am moved by him as a person, as a candidate and hopefully as our president. If we can all put down the divisive anger and look at who this man is, what he has truly done and what he intends to do, there should be no question that he is, and should be, the next leader of the free world.
Vote. November 4th. Believe in our country, believe in yourself…believe in change…Barack Obama for President 2008.
